Description |
Jubilee edition, vol. 1. Printed and published for the Alfred Committee, by Messrs J. F. Smith and Co., Oxford and Cambridge, 1852. Tall octavo; decorative printed title in red, printed title; pp. xvi, 152, 4; 4 lithographic plates of coins, designed by D. H. Haigh, engraved by W. McDowall. Gilt-decorated embossed blue cloth; minor wear at extremities; endpapers a little age marked; together with a few preliminaries, otherwise clean and fresh, especially the four plates. A curious work, apparently issued without the final text pages (153-154), and the final three plates, 5, 6 & 7. A second edition was published in 1863, edited by Rev. Dr. J. A. Giles, and including the 3 extra plates and the two additional pages. (The Manville copy, sold in 2014, was precisely similar to the present volume). Rare. |
