A View of the coins at this Time current throughout Europe... London 1766.
Description
Octavo, pp. (iii), 25, Index (3), 25 engraved plates, with printed text on the verso of each plate. Contemporary speckled calf, gilt; minor wear at extremities; marbled endpapers. 19th century book label on endpaper. A delightful 18th century “coin book”, in direct line of succession from those of the 16th and 17th centuries published in Holland, France and Germany, and almost certainly the first of its kind to have been published in English. It was intended to be a vade-mecum for travellers on the Continent to guide them through the currency minefield of “Grand Tour Europe”.
