Quarto, frontispiece; 67 plates, depicting obverse and reverse of some 1203 coins. The work includes illustrations of silver coins from the Norman Conquest to Queen Anne (740 coins) and gold coins from Edward II to William II and a further supplement ilustrating 207 coins, with a summary description of each plate.
Contemporary, or original, morocco-backed cloth, gilt; minor wear.
Martin Folkes' foundation work was first published in 1761-61. He was a well-regarded Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and this is a good quality reprint of the plates of that work, and jit is possible it was doien to mark the centenary of the first appearance of his work. |
