Author DONOP. Le Baron de
Title Les Medailles Gallo-Gaeliques. Description de la trouvaille de l'Ile de Jersey. Hannovre, 1838.
Description Large quarto, pp. (iv), 40; 32 engraved plates, illustrating 760 coins from the Jersey Hoard. Title page, with pencilled note to the effect that the volume was purchased from M. Rollin, rue Vivienne, (Paris) for 8frcs (before 1900), slightly spotted, and some minimal browning in places on the text pages; the plates much cleaner and with really sharp engraved images of the coins. Contemporary green polished green morocco, upper and lower covers intricately and attractively gilt-decorated, worn, the upper board loose; inner joint strengthened with tape; original yellow endpapers. Ex library with the associated stamps, but only occasionally at the margins of a few plates. A very rare report of an exceptionally important hoard of Gaulish-Celtic coins found in Jersey. Very rare.
