Neatly bound in later speckled polished half calf, morocco title label along back, gilt; minimal scuffing; marbled boards the Addition concerns the subsequent history of Catherine Gordon, widow of Perkin Warbeck. In this work Walpole sought to rehabilitate the character of Richard III, whom Walpole believed had been unfairly vilified by the earlier historians. Walpole is remembered today for his magnificent house, Strawberry Hill at Twickenham that he filled with a superb collection of art, including coins and medals. |
